ReelCrew Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 1, 2026

ReelCrew (“ReelCrew,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by Tom Tandarich, provides the ReelCrew mobile application (the “App”), a community-first movie and TV tracking service. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Account information: email address, password, username, and display name. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form — we never see or store your plaintext password.
• Profile information: optional profile photo (avatar), optional bio, and your selected favorite genres.
• Content you create: movies you log (watched status, 1–10 ratings, recommendation thumbs, emoji reactions, watch dates, and rewatch counts), written reviews and short “reactions,” answers to crew review questions, your personal watchlist and custom lists, and comments you post on crew activity.
• Crew (group) information: the crews you create or join, and your role and membership in them.

Information collected automatically

• Device / notification token: if you enable push notifications, we store an Expo push notification token so we can deliver alerts.
• Server and technical data: like most online services, our hosting providers automatically log technical information such as IP address, request timestamps, and basic device/app information for security and reliability.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment information (the App is free), precise geolocation, your contacts, or health data. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking, and we do not sell your personal information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

• create and maintain your account and profile;
• provide the core features — logging, rating, reviewing, lists, watchlists, crews, leaderboards, taste-compatibility, and activity feeds;
• share your activity with the crews you choose to join (see Section 3);
• send push notifications you’ve enabled (e.g., new crew activity, comments);
• retrieve movie and TV information from The Movie Database (see Section 4);
• keep the service secure, debug problems, and prevent abuse;
• comply with legal obligations.

3. How Your Information Is Shared

• With your crews. ReelCrew is a social app. When you join or create a crew, the activity you generate — your logs, ratings, recommendations, reactions, reviews, comments, watchlist additions, and profile (display name and avatar) — is visible to the other members of that crew. Only share content you’re comfortable with your crew seeing.
• With service providers. We share information with the vendors that power the App, acting on our behalf (see Section 4).
• For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of ReelCrew, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers. If ReelCrew is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following providers to operate the App:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (your account, content, and avatar images are stored here).
• Railway — hosting for our backend API.
• Expo — delivery of push notifications.
• Apple — distribution of the App (App Store / TestFlight).
• The Movie Database (TMDb) — movie and TV metadata (posters, cast, synopses, streaming availability). We send TMDb your search terms and the IDs of titles you view; we do not send TMDb your identity or account data.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. Data is primarily stored and processed in the United States.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the App (Settings → Delete account). Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, logs, reviews, watchlist, lists, comments, and crew memberships, and deletes any crews you own. Residual copies may persist in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten, and we may retain limited records where required by law.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls at the database level. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at reelcrewmovieapp@gmail.com and we will delete it.

8. Your Rights & Choices

• Access and update: you can view and edit your profile and content in the App at any time.
• Delete: you can delete individual logs, reviews, lists, and comments, or delete your entire account (Settings → Delete account).
• Notifications: you can disable push notifications in your device settings.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, deletion, or portability). To make a request, contact us at reelcrewmovieapp@gmail.com.

9. International Users

The App is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you use the App from outside the U.S., you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the United States.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
